This policy explains what personal data Visit Portrush (visitportrush.co.uk) collects, why, and what rights you have over it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than dense legal boilerplate — if anything's unclear, email us and we'll explain it properly.
Who we are

We're the "data controller" for the personal data described below — the party responsible for deciding how and why it's used.
What we collect, and why
Site analytics
Like most websites, we use analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people found us, and roughly where visitors are browsing from (country/ region level, not a precise location). This typically includes your IP address (processed to derive general location, not stored to identify you personally), browser and device type, pages viewed, and how long you spend on the site. We rely on legitimate interests as the legal basis for this — understanding and improving the site — and, where analytics tools set cookies to do this, on your consent (see ourCookie Policy for how we handle that).
Getting in touch
If you email us — questions, corrections, local tips, photo submissions — we'll process whatever personal data is in that email (typically your name and email address) to reply to you. We rely on legitimate interests (responding to enquiries) as the legal basis, and we don't use anything you send us for marketing without asking first.
Advertising and affiliate links
This site is supported by display advertising and affiliate links (for example, to hotel booking sites and tour operators). If you click through to a partner site — a hotel, accommodation search, or tour booking page — that site may set its own cookies or collect its own data under its own privacy policy, separate from ours. We don't control, and aren't responsible for, what those third-party sites do with your data once you've left visitportrush.co.uk. Where we run display advertising (for example through Google AdSense), the ad provider may process data about your visit to show relevant ads — see ourCookie Policy for details on the specific services in use and how to opt out.
Who we share data with
We don't sell personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site — for example, analytics providers (such as Google Analytics) and, where active, advertising providers (such as Google AdSense) and affiliate networks (such as hotel or tour booking partners) for the purposes described above. These providers process data under their own privacy policies as independent controllers or as processors acting on our instructions, depending on the service.
How long we keep data
Analytics data is retained only as long as needed to be useful for understanding site trends, typically no more than 26 months, after which it's automatically deleted or anonymised by our analytics provider's default settings. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterward in case of follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it (right of access).
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data (right to rectification).
- Ask us to delete your data, where there's no good reason for us to keep it (right to erasure).
- Object to how we're using your data, particularly for analytics or marketing (right to object).
- Ask us to restrict how we use your data in certain circumstances (right to restriction).
To exercise any of these, email support@visitportrush.co.uk. If you're not satisfied with how we handle your request, you have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, theInformation Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes — for example, when new advertising or affiliate partners go live. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
